To celebrate this being our 10th tour, Michael and I have created an additional travel experience. Join us for a 4-day Walking Culinary Tour of Rome 26-29 September 2024.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL, SIRACUSA & RAGUSA

Morning pick up from Catania and transfer to Ragusa.

A welcoming lunch with our relatives at Tenuta Cavasecca , one of Siracusa’s award winning olive groves set within the Iblei Mountains and surrounded by centuries old olive trees.

A scenic drive through the limestone valley to Ragusa Ibla. Check into Hotel Antico Convento dei Cappuccini.

Free time to have an evening stroll through the town of Ragusa Ibla. Evening aperitif at a local sulumeria in the heart of this Baroque town sampling local Sicilian cheeses and salumi.


DAY 4: PALERMO

We venture west to Sicily’s capital city of Palermo and check into Palazzo Natoli Boutique Hotel.

Time for relaxation and then by foot we will explore some of this beautiful city’s culinary traditions set amongst Medieval and Norman splendour. We will dine as guests of the ancient Chapel of San Francesco filled with a treasure trove of gastronomical history.


Cooking Class

DAY 7: SANTA CRISTINA GELA & CALATAFIMI

The head Chef of the winery and I will lead the group in a hands on cooking class which will be our lunch.

Free leisure time to explore the winery or relax.

An evening visit into the village of Calatafimi, my parent’s birthplace. This is a picturesque hill top town of great historical significance to Italy. It is here where Giuseppe Garibaldi unified the north with the south of Italy. We will wander through the village and share a relaxing supper with my relatives in the piazza consisting of local food delicacies from this village.

DAY 2: RAGUSA, MODICA & NOTO

Morning cooking class and lunch at the culinary school within the hotel and then some time for relaxation.

An afternoon visit to Modica in the province of Ragusa, where hidden culinary treasures await such as a chocolate making demonstration. 

An evening stroll through the majestic Baroque town of Noto visiting my culinary hero’s pastry and gelati institution, Caffe Sicilia established in 1892


DAY 5: palermo

Linda Sarris, otherwise known as ‘The Cheeky Chef’ and I will lead the group on a tour of one of Palermo’s charismatic food markets, il Ballaro’, sampling street food and interacting with the food vendors. She is chilled, cheerful and cheeky all in one!

Time for shopping, more exploring or relaxation before an evening stroll through the Kalsa district of Palermo where we meet a local renowned chef, Carlo Napoli. In his family restaurant, Carlo will prepare for us some of Palermo’s finest provincial, seasonal and traditional dishes.


DAY 8: SALT PANS OF TRAPANI & SCOPELLO

Morning adventure along the west coast of Sicily bound for Trapani via the salt pans of Nubia.

Continue along the west coast to check into the cliff perched Hotel Torre Bennistra in Scopello. Scopello consists of many cobblestoned paths that eventually lead to an ancient tuna fishing site right on the north-western coastline of Sicily. Relax, you deserve it!

DAY 3: ORTIGIA AND FERLA

A day visit to the island of Ortigia, Siracusa’s ancient city by the sea, where we will explore more culinary pleasures and the colourful street market.

An afternoon visit to Ferla for a farewell to the east coast dinner with Michael’s family sampling some of their favourite traditional Sicilian recipes. This is always a wonderful evening filled with lots of laughter.

Ferla is my father in law’s village, a small, enchanting and humble town filled with a quiet and welcoming atmosphere. 

This is an opportunity to meet and interact with the local villagers and exploring some of Ferla’s charm.


DAY 6: SANTA CRISTINA GELA

Depart Palermo for rest and relaxation at Baglio di Pianetto, a winery situated on the hills above Palermo in Santa Cristina Gela. Together we will enjoy a light lunch consisting of wine and cheese tasting.

Indulge in some leisure time before an evening dinner in the winery restaurant.


DAY 9: SCOPELLO & FAREWELL DINNER

Free leisure time to explore Scopello’s ‘Zingara’ Nature coastal walks, bask in the Sicilian sun, read a good book or swim in the Tyrrhenian sea.

Evening farewell to the west coast of Sicily dinner at our hotel.

Mid-morning return transfers to Palermo airport and saying goodbye to Sicily…

Day 1: ARRIVAL, CINEMA & FOOD WALK

Early afternoon check in to our hotel, Horti 14 Borgo Trastevere Rome.

Late afternoon Italian cinema and food walk with Ms Eleonora Baldwin, the granddaughter of Vittorio DeSica, world renowned filmmaker who also won four Academy Awards. Eleonora will guide us on a cinematic, historical, and gastronomical stroll to famous film locations sampling the foods depicted in some of Italy’s grandest cinematic accomplishments whilst meeting some of the locals involved in their creation.

Welcoming dinner at a local Roman trattoria in Trastevere.

Day 2: COOKING CLASS WITH THE HORTI FAMILY

Morning cooking class and lunch at our hotel and then free time for you to relax or explore la bella Roma at your own pace.


Day 4: ARRIVEDERCI ROMA!   

Time to farewell the charm and allure of la bella Roma. You may decide to stay on and discover more, ‘when in Rome’!

Day 3: STREET FOOD TOUR

A local and well respected foodie will lead us on an authentic tasting of Roman cuisine from a culturally diverse mix of this ancient city’s neighbourhoods.

Rest and relax before an evening stroll along the Tiber River to one of our favourite districts of Rome, the fashionable and elegant Prati. Free time for shopping or just admiring the local attractions such as Castel Sant’Angelo and Piazza Cavour.

Farewell to Roma evening dinner at Hostaria da Cesare, where the locals dine in Prati before a leisurely stroll back along the River passing the Tiber island of Rome.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL & ROUND 1 –MIRA BORGO DI LUCE

Early afternoon check in to our hotel, Mira Borgo di Luce i Monasteri Golf Resort and Spa in Siracusa Sicily. Mira Borgo di luce, originally a Benedictine monastery and then home to Sicilian nobility, is now a resort consisting of deluxe villas set amongst surrounding olive and citrus groves. A truly relaxing environment.

Welcoming dinner at the resort’s restaurant offering local authentic Sicilian dishes.

DAY 2: ROUND 2 – LINGUAGLOSSA BY MOUNT ETNA

Morning round of golf at the resort.

For those remaining at the resort, make the most of the wellness and spa centre and beauty treatments or just relax by the pool in the beautiful surrounds. Evening dinner at the resort’s restaurant.

DAY 3: ROUND 3 – MIRA BORGO DI LUCE & ORTIGIA

Those playing golf will be transferred to Il Picciolo Etna Golf Resort.

Evening twilight visit to Ortigia, a little island by the Mediterranean and Ionian Seas, originally the site for Sicily’s Greek ancestors. Free time for shopping and wandering before our evening farewell dinner together in a local restaurant.


DAY 4: CIAO!

Morning return transfers to Catania Airport or city of Catania.
